The Rise of the Carlyle Group

Tax incentives provided for the Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs), which allowed them to sell their losses, were exploited by David Rubenstein, who established the Carlyle Group – a revolving door of crony capitalism in which George Soros, Osama Bin Laden, members of the Bush family, and many other prominent government officials have held funds. The Carlyle Group emerged as a leading government contractor, generating billions of dollars for its investors, raising questions of why a government, that is tasked with serving the people, should create opportunities that reward private equity funds and government contractors with billions of dollars of profits? That it does reflects that the government is being used as a vehicle to fleece the people and enrich a few politically-connected insiders.
