On the campaign trail, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin maintained a studied distance from Donald Trump, as if to signal that he represented mainstream conservative values – and was willing to to challenge “woke” culture on behalf of his constituents. He wasn’t going to ruffle any feathers, but rather feather his own nest, quietly, discretely, like a good politician.

Beyond grandstanding, Youngkin could never have posed a challenge to the establishment he rallied against since the corporate interests behind woke also bankrolled his political campaign.
