Jules Archer’s Plot to Seize the White House depicts how a vigilant, patriotic American foiled a plot by the Money Trust to transform the United States into a fascist dictatorship.

The hero in this story is Major General Smedley Darlington Butler, a veteran of the Marine Corps who had received the Congressional Medal of Honor twice.

Butler blew the whistle on the plot after he was approached by the American Liberty League to lead veterans into agitating to restore the gold standard so that veterans could be paid in money backed by gold rather than worthless paper.

As the League appreciated, Butler was perfect for this role given his larger than life presence and habit of speaking his mind which inspired the trust and respect of his peers.

The cause was noble and patriotic on the surface, but Butler soon discovered a sinister plot to use veterans as cover to install a fascist dictatorship in the United States.
